UPDATE:
OKEMOS, MI - Ng earned her 20th victory on May 8th against 2011 Lansing State Journal Abby Perkins of Mason in the Okemos Quad meet. Ng defeated Perkins 6-2 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set.
Ng, who started playing tennis at the age of 6, contributes her success thus far to practicing and putting more time in on the courts this senior season, but doesn't believe in practicing too much. Only five to six times a week for two hours.
"I don't really do extensive training outside of school," said Ng. "When I am practicing I focus and make sure it's a good practice."
According to Okemos Girl's Tennis Coach Al Inkala, this has been her best season yet.
"Irene's one of our top players, we've had her for four years, she came in as a freshman and has been just a tremendous player and team leader for four years," said Inkala. "She's one of the top players in the state and I'm looking forward to her finishing her career real strong."
In the CAAC Blue final May 10th, Ng lost to her longtime rival, Grand Ledge's Hailey Barrett, but the Chiefs as a team won the CAAC Blue League as well as the Division Two Regional.
The Chiefs are ranked sixth heading into the Division Two state finals on June 1 at Kalamazoo College where Ng believes they will do very well.
