UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The revisions to a set of personal property tax bills in Michigan is still under debate. The package of bills would eliminate significant portions of the personal property tax. While the impact these bills would have on many communities is uncertain at the moment, Meridian Township Manager Gerald Richards says it will have a relatively small impact on Meridian Township.
"The primary focus for this legislation is to encourage job growth, particularly in the manufacturing sector of the economy here in Michigan, and we have very little personal property taxes associated with industrial property," he said.
Richards says they won't have a significant impact on the township because the bills wouldn't affect utilities, which Richards also says are the biggest personal property tax payer.
