MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - In February, the Park Commission asked for a millage increase of 2/3 of a mil. This millage request has been approved to be included on the November 2014 ballot in Meridian Township.
"Every park in Meridian Township is going to be positively affected by this. It's going to affect our ball fields, our soccer fields, and our playgrounds, it's going to just make our parks that much more better. I mean, they're already great parks, but they're going to end up being "wow" parks," said Township Board Trustee, Angela Wilson.
The millage is currently 1/3 of a mil and has been this way since 1984.
The current amount is not enough to make improvements on the parks and the Park Commission has not raised enough money to apply for grants.
"You know, what we're looking at is a pretty exciting campaign to make the first significant difference in our park system in 30 years," said Park Commissioner, Teri Banas.
The Park Commission is in the process of constructing a website for the millage campaign that will provide more information to residents.
