HASLETT - The Haslett American Legion held a tailgating fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 19 while the Air Force faced off against the Michigan State Spartans in football. There were plenty of people in attendance to support both football teams, but everyone was there for the same underlying reason: to support the military.
The fundraiser, named Operation Gratitude, saw a fairly large turnout. The proceeds from this fundraiser are being donated to help create care packages to send overseas to the military.
In addition to the money collected from the purchase of food and drink, donations of physical items are also accepted. Donations are not required, but are always welcome. Patrick Kalil, a commander for the SAL, added that "anyone can donate...all the proceeds will go to the troops for Christmas."
The Haslett American Legion hopes to fill around 50 boxes by Christmas time.
