UPDATE:
OKEMOS - Okemos volleyball took on their conference rival East lansing recently and this rivalry game had a little more at stake than usual.
Senior night at East Lansing High School brought out some added motivation for the Trojan Volleyball team. The Chieftans of Okemos knew it would be a tough MATCH with all the added emotion and Coach Jamie Ianni made sure to have her team ready. Some key serves in the first game allowed Okemos to take the lead and close out the first game 25-17. Despite an early lead in the second game, East Lansing went on of their many runs in the game which ended up tying the match at 1-1. This had Ianni concerned but she knew her team could persevere.
"We still gave up some runs but we need to credit East Lansing I think they served well during those runs and we had some problems passing the ball but I thought we did a really good job of stopping those runs and getting possession of the ball back and regaining that momentum that we lost. "
Some Okemos mistakes throughout the match kept East Lansing close but they knew that wouldn't last. Some great play at the net by #15, Halle Thom helped Okemos win the second game to take a 2-1 lead. The pressure was on East Lansing by the fourth game to extend the match. However, senior night was spoiled for East Lansing as Okemos took the final game 25-21. Fans will have to wait until next to watch this rivalry game play out again.
With the regular season over, Okemos will now prepare for the conference tournament.
