OKEMOS, MI - The Okemos boy’s tennis team is going to the state championship to play this fall.
The team is excited and prepared to take on the championship one match at a time.
“The whole team is extremely excited. We're ready, we've been preparing for the last couple months. We feel that this is our best team we've had under Coach Silker, and yeah, we're really excited, and we're gonna take it one match at a time and have fun.” said Dinakar Tallori, a tennis player on the Okemos boy’s tennis team.
The special ingredients to the team's success are the freshman class, and the close bond and chemistry of the players.
“This year’s special, more than the other years, because of the close chemistry with all the players, between them.” said Deniz Kalfa, another player on the Okemos boy’s tennis team.
“I think it’s mostly the fact that our chemistry, and how close we are to each other. This has been one of the closest teams I've been a part of in my four years of being part of this team, and, definitely the talent brings a lot. The new freshmen coming in this year, there's a lot of talent this year, which definitely helps.” said Dinakar.
When asked why his team has had such success and made it to the states, Coach Silker said, “Well, we've got a freshman class that's maybe one of the best entrance classes that we've had here in the last decade, since probably 2007, before I started coaching. I think that's a big part of it, is that peer group is just so strong. We've got a great, bonded team that is really invested in each other; that's been a big part of our success.”
The Okemos Boys Tennis team will compete in the State Finals Friday, October 20th and Saturday, October 21st.
