OKEMOS - Okemos boys took control of the turf early and didn't let up against rival Haslett, as the Chiefs crushed the Vikings 17-0 Tuesday night.
Okemos scored just four minutes into the game courtesy of Blake Turner, and then went on a scoring rampage. The Chiefs found the net six times in the next seven minutes, and lit up the scoreboard 7-0 in just the first period.
And it didn't get any better for the Vikings. Turner put up 6 goals in the game and junior forward Bennett Sherman finished with a hat trick as the Chiefs led 12-0 nothing at the half. Even after switching out their starting goalie for their backup, the Vikings were unable to find the night. Head coach Shawn Grady said the real leaders for the night were the men between the pipes.
"I thought our goalies did a great job," said coach Grady.
"Anytime you have two guys that ca stop the shots they did. Haslett had some great shooters and they were shooting, but I think our goalies were up to it."
With the victory, the victorious Chiefs take on Hot on Tuesday, while Haslett travels to Waverly to hopefully break the scoreless drought.
