MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - OKEMOS - School Of Rock-East Lansing held their Grand Opening Ceremony with their new school located at 2037 W. Grand River Avenue in Okemos On Saturday November 2nd.
The event was open to the public where the community was able to tour the building and see all the different instruments. Refreshments were provided and Douglas J. Institute were also in attendance showing punk hair styles and makeup. Owners of the School Of Rock-East Lansing, Jon and Sarah Jackinchuck, spoke a few words and thanked friends, family and colleagues for their support towards opening their business. The event also included a guitar smashing contest, along with a live performance by the school of Rochester's House Band in front of the building. At the end of the event, a prize drawing took place in the studio with a lucky person winning a brand new Electric Guitar.
Jon Jackinchuck told HOMTV, "School Of Rock offers music instruction for guitar base, keyboard, vocals and drums. We have private lessons combined with group lessons and we have shows. We put our students on stage, and ages ranges from three through ninety nine. There learning music theory and history of their instrument. Their also learning life skills and work with others to work towards a group goal to build confidence to go on stage and put on a show."
Jon also added that, "We have programs for all skill levels and stating that there shows are a number of different mixture of ages and skill level. We find parts that beginner musicians can play along with an advanced musician. There both contributing to the performance, making sure its successful."
