MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Autumn Park Neighborhood has filed a lawsuit against Meridian Township for the location of the new Central Fire Station.
The neighborhood will request a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) for the building of the station. In November of 2012, voters agreed to build a new fire station on the corner of Okemos Road and Central Park Drive. Part of Autumn Park's case is that the ballot language was confusing and that the Township Board did not follow proper procedure.
"We need to get this station built, we need to get moving, and we hope that this isn't a long delay, because what a long delay does is it lessens our ability to provide public safety and it adds cost to the process, and those two things are not good for our residents," said Frank Walsh, Meridian Township's Manager.
Representatives from Autumn Park and Meridian Township will go before Judge Joyce Draganchuck on Wednesday, April 30th. If the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) does not go through, it should take about ten to twelve months to build the fire station.
