UPDATE: LANSING - School may be out for the summer but there's still a lot to learn.

Last week the results from the Michigan Merit Exam were released and the news was both good and bad, The MME includes the ACT and other Michigan developed exams. The ACT is used to judge college readiness.

While the ACT scores have increased from 19.4 to 19.6 on a 36 point scale, Lansing School District lagged behind statewide averages by more than 20% in most subjects. This year, the standards of passing have changed, making it more difficult to students to pass.

The percentage of students who passed portions of the exam dropped when compared to how last year's juniors performed under the older, easier standards according to the Detroit Free Press.

The low scores aren't just seen in the high schools, similar low scores were seen in the MEAP results among elementary and middle school students.

While the scores are still low, they have been rising over the last four years. Okemos High ranked in the Top Ten schools in the state.
