Michigan Adoption

Michigan Adoption

UPDATE: LANSING - It was a busy day at the Hall of Justice as many children's lives were changed for the future. A new bill was passed which increased the age that children in foster care can receive aid from age 18 to 21.

Governor Synder: "Let's be relentless in making sure we're taking care of the most important thing in our state, our children"

For some of the family members, all they wanted was a sibling to grow up with.

"It's nice to have two little sisters to teach and help keep me in line".

The Schultz family has been planning their official Adoption Day with Derrick for a long time.

Blaine Schultz: "We felt like we had more love to give and the ability to provide a home for a child".

For the Schultz family, Derrick seems to fit right in.

Laura Schultz: "Derrick is just a blessing, he is more than we could have imagined".

Lutheran Adoption Service was there along the way to make sure Derrick found a place with the Schultz family.
Eric Washburn: "Seeing an adoption finalized, there's a lot of satisfaction and pleasure for us seeing kids have permanent loving homes"

Derrick's older siblings love having a new brother around but sometimes they feel he is fitting into his role as ababy brother a little too well.

Derrick Schultz: "Although they think I'm annoying"

It sounds like the family got all they bargained for this holiday season and they wouldn't have it any other way.
