MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On June 1st Gov. Whitmer heavily rescinded Michigan’s stay-at-home order. Complying with state and federal regulations, Meridian Township is reopening its offices, and parks.

Starting today, Township offices are open to the public and township hours are from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. In order to enter a township building you must be wearing a mask ,participate in social distancing, and visitors are encouraged to wash hands as often as possible. If washing your hands isn’t an option, hand sanitizer will be provided.

Inside Township buildings , there has been an increase in cleaning and disinfecting procedures, and protective physical barriers have been put in place. Meridian Township is offering new customer service policies to keep you safe. Here’s what you need to know:

-Meridian Township is offering digital and non-contact service. With this option residents can utilize the Township’s social media pages and the Meridian Township staff directory.

-Residents can drop off payments, documents and absentee ballots at the 24 hour drop box located outside the Municipal Building.

Meridian Township is now offering portable outdoor services. These services are located outside of the Municipal Building, and residents will be able to pay bills, fees, taxes,and inquire about special assessments and building permits. Residents can also enter the Municipal Building Town Hall room for information about the upcoming primary election in August.

In other news, the Meridian Township will be represented by Township Manager Frank L. Walsh in the Michigan Township Association webinar on June 10th at noon. This webinar focuses on townships and their plans to reopen their economies and to keep residents safe.

During the past three months, we did everything we could to serve our 43,000 residents during COVID-19. Caring for our residents is why we are here,” said Meridian Township Manager Frank L. Walsh.

Last week, starting June 4th, outside activities of 100 people were able to resume, but people are still required to social distance. Meridian Township parks are opening up and here’s what you need to know to have fun in the sun:

-Playgrounds are open but cannot be disinfected after every use so visitors are encouraged to bring hand sanitizer that has 60% alcohol and wash hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds.

-Restrooms in Wonch, Central, Towner Rd, Nancy Moore and North Meridian Parks are open. When in these restrooms you must wear a mask.

-At pavilions, sport fields and courts are open as well as the Farmers Market and the small dog park.

-The Harris Nature Center and the Meridian Senior Center are still closed.
