MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township has been recognized for going green, and has been awarded a silver medal for clean energy efforts in the 2016 Michigan Green Community challenge.
The Township is one of the select few Townships in the state of Michigan that received the silver award.
To qualify for silver honors, the township had to complete a series of action items, ranging from developing green building policies for local government facilities, to adopting a non-motorized transportation plan.
Recycling Coordinator, LeRoy Harvey said, "Meridian Township has been environmentally conscious probably since its inception, but particularly in the last couple of decades. We've done a lot and I've had little to do with all these accomplishment, but we've passed ordinates, and developed plans and policies and created commissions and boards, that helps support environmental improvements."
