MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Throughout the month of October, Meridian Township welcomed residents to participate in the Solar & Sustainable Tour, comprised of a number of solar panels and other sustainable energy locations in the Township.
The Tour kicked off on October 2nd at the Farmers' Market, where residents were able to speak with experts as well as homeowners who use solar panels to learn more about solar and other sustainable energy sources.
The Tour has 13 different areas available for viewing, and includes solar panels used for industrial and domestic purposes, including at the Haslett Community Church and Marketplace on the Green to name a few.
The Tour is a part of a nationwide initiative during the month, the 26th Annual National Solar Tour by the American Solar Energy Society.
Meridian Township Environmental Programs Coordinator Leroy Harvey said about the Tour, “We are part of a nationwide effort…[Meridian Township’s Tour] is supposedly the largest grassroots solar initiative in the country, ever. It is the first hybrid tour- it’s a combination of drive-by. You can drive by and see some of the systems.”
