MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Tuesday, September 25th, The Willows at Okemos was the host location for Meridian Township's 30th Senior Tribute Luncheon.
The event honored local seniors who improved the quality of life of residents and neighborhoods through their service to the community.
The luncheon featured food, music and a presentation of an outstanding senior award to a member of the local community.
This year's winner of the outstanding senior award went to Terry Carroll, a Township resident for over 40 years and a member of the Haslett-Okemos Kiwanis Club for over 37 years.
Carroll has donated countless hours of his time volunteering in the park system and with children and seniors in need.
Carroll was also a founding member of the Glen Erin Pipe Band and has been a featured bagpipe player in addition to managing the group. The band was there to honor Carroll by marching in to begin the luncheon.
Meridian Township Supervisor Ronald J. Styka and Township Treasurer Phil Deschaine were also in attendance.
They on behalf of the Township, awarded a check for $1,200 dollars with money that was raised for the occasion to the Meridian Senior Center.
The Center's Coordinator Cherie Wisdom accepted the check and thanked the Township and all the sponsors.
