MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Last Saturday, Meridian Township residents spent the crisp afternoon engaging in Halloween activities.

The Township gave residents plenty of activities to keep them occupied for the day.

The afternoon was filled with hayrides, apple cider, bonfires, and more.

The Harris Nature Center received more community cooperation this year from volunteers in organizations including: The Lansing Derby Vixens, MSU Kappa Delta Pi and the MSU Parks and Recreation club.

The organizations helped design games, read spooky stories at the fire pit and helped in the Fun House as well as by the pumpkin pinata.

In addition to the help from local organizations, HNC staff and volunteers also came out to help with the event.

"The Okemos Library has sent one of their librarians and he dresses up as a knight. He has the full regalia of the knight outfit and he does jousting with the kids and teaches them a little bit about medieval times," Harris Nature Center Coordinator, Kit Rich said, "This is the 14th year of doing this event and it's just a really great turn out this year."

The nature center decorated the woods for the hay rides that ran periodically throughout the day.

After the hay ride, families warmed up by the fire while roasting marshmallows and sipping on hot apple cider.

Meridian Township also held open houses for kids at the Police Department, Fire Stations, Farmers' Market, Historical Village and at HOMTV Studios.
