EAST LANSING - For Michigan State University students, a new additional system has been put into place in order to ensure their safety.
The MSU Police has implemented a new One-Button alert system. Tested last fall, the One-Touch system allows police to send out automated call, texts, and Facebook messages within minutes of any emergency.
While similar message alert system are already in place, the new system is much faster. MSU is the fourth institution in the country to implement the system.
Residents interested in receiving the alerts can sign for a guest account on the MSU portal website at msuguest.bbcportal.com.
MSU also recently launched its new Ready State emergency preparedness website at readystate.police.msu.edu, which has information on how to be prepared for numerous types of emergencies.
