MEA Link Shows Local Alleged Funding
Loss

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Michigan Education Association posted a new link on their website that shows alleged funding loss to school districts across the state.

The website www.kidsnotceos.com shows by 2015 Okemos School District is predicted to suffer close to $7 million of funding loss dating back to 2011.

Funding loss each year is looked at in comparison to funding loss from 2010-2011.

Under the same timeline Haslett School District is predicted to lose about $4.4 million.

However, Dave Murray the Deputy Press Secretary for Governor Rick Snyder's Office said these calculations are false.
"Since Governor Snyder has taken office the state investment in K-12 schools has increased by $1 billion according to his budget recommendation for the fiscal 2015 year. That's $11.7 billion in a $50 billion budget. That's a sizable investment in Michigan's future," said Murray.

The Governor's office also said some federal grants for education from President Obama's stimulus package have expired, but that was to be expected.

The Michigan Education Association was not available for an interview at the time of the story.
