MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Sisters of the Union demonstrate historical aspects of everyday life at the Meridian Heritage Festival at the Historical Village Heritage Day in Meridian Township. Formed in 1903, the sisters leave electronic technology behind, and get back to the technological basics of baking apples and chicken soup over an open fire, spinning yarn, and making soaps. Their mission is to bring to life the everday life that women endured in the 1860's.

“We feel it is important people to be connected face to face. Nowadays people connect online. We want to show people how we connected in the 1860’s, how things we done and we communicated around a fire," commented JoAnne C Hazel, one of the sisters.

They hope to educate, inspire, and encourage others to value and uphold their way of life through living history event activities and demonstrations. The sisters have three more events this year; Wolcott Mill in Romeo and Pioneer Christmas in Shelby Township. All soap sales support the non profit organizations ability to attend events and show how women cared for their families in the 1860's.
