UPDATE: OKEMOS - The plans for the dog park in the township are still developing, but there has been some changes to the proposed site, Legg Park.

"There are two driveways that have access through the park. This should have been dealt with years ago," said LuAnn Maisner, Director of Parks and Recreation in Meridian Township.

Since part of the park was grant funded, Meridian worked with the DNR and the National Park Service to change the boundary and they agreed this needs to be corrected.

Maisner said, "There was parts of the park property that were utilized by these private property owners and it wasn't that they were infringing or encroaching, it was just the way that it always was."

So the boundary has now been corrected where they have their portion and the park boundary has been established.

"We do work very hard at maintaining our park boundaries and this was just one of those things that needed to get taken care of," said Maisner.

With this boundary taken care of, Legg Park is still the home to the future dog park. The park will total about 10 acres out of the total 103 that are here, but there has still been some neighbors opposed.

Maisner said, "When we look at building pathways in the township, there are always people that come out against that and do you walk away because there are a few people who are not interested in it, or do you look at whats good for the greater good of the community?"

The date to begin construction is to be determined because they are still raising funds and will be establishing a formal fundraiser.
