UPDATE:
LANSING, MI - It's a unique game that originated in Scotland in the 16th century and it's played on the ice.
"Most people think of it when they first see it, they see it as sort of a shuffle board type of game," said Stephen Parker, President of the Lansing curling club.
The sport is known as curling. The object: four team members try to get one or more curling stones which weigh between 42 and 45 pounds, to the other end of the ice sheet. A curling game can last anywhere between 3 to 10 ends, which are similar to innings in baseball.
"Curling unlike most competitive sports, and it is a competitive sport, is a unique game of honesty and integrity," said Parker. "It's very much a gentleman's game like golf."
The Lansing curling club will be holding an open house in late August/ early September for people interested in learning more about the sport.
League play begins September 10 at the Summit Sports and Ice Complex in Dimondale where the curling club calls home.
