MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Board voted six to one to amend Township Manager Frank Walsh's proposal for a search for new legal representation for the Township at their Feb. 17 meeting.

Following the conclusion of the meeting the Hubbard Law Firm will no longer be representing Meridian Township due to the firm closing.

The Hubbard Law Firm has represented Meridian Township for the past 15 years.

The Township Board amended Walsh's original motion to seek requests and approval for legal services, agreeing that a review of legal need should be conducted before making a final decision.

"My dealings with (the Hubbard Law Firm) have always been that they were very competent, so I'm sorry to see them go. I wish them the best in the future," said Meridian Township Trustee John Veenstra. "However, I think the fact that this has come up should provide us with an opportunity to totally review our legal counsel situation."

Walsh suggested that the Township Board name three members to a committee to find new legal representation. The selected members would develop questions and schedule interviews with the help of Walsh.

The Township Board discussed the options regarding how to properly execute the search process and who would serve on the committee, but has not made a final decision.
