FOWLERVILLE - The Vikings sailed to a win in their season opener versus Fowlerville on Friday night in front of a mostly full visitor's section populated by the Haslett High School faithful. Fowlerville led by one 13-14 in the waning seconds of the first half thanks to a missed extra point by Haslett. But Haslett heaved up a 41 yard Hail Mary pass which connected and put Haslett in position for a field goal try. The Vikings' kicker Magnusson put it through the uprights to put Haslett ahead 16-14 at the end of the half.
The second half was dominated by the Vikings as the Hail Mary pass at the end of the half seemed to put the wind into the Vikings' sails. They pulled away with solid offense that scored a total of 43 on a combination of run and pass, with a defense that seemed to bottle up and frustrate Fowlerville's ability to get any momentum in the second half. They managed to score only 6 more points in the disappointing loss.
Next up for Haslett is Brandon High for the home opener. Brandon High lost its season opener and comes into Haslett 0-1.
