HASLETT - The Haslett Vikings met their rivals from Dewitt for the third time this season last Friday night. Haslett got the better of the Panthers the first-two-times they met, by a combined 16 points.
Those two losses counted for half of Dewitt's losses all season. As for Haslett, they haven't lost since the very first game of the regular season which makes it 21 straight wins for the Vikings this season.
During the fight for the District Title Dewitt grabbed the ball early, and moved it around to Hannah Stoll in the corner who knocked down the three. Then tied at ten, Claudia Reir dished the ball outside to Maria Moss who made the triple. And just as Dewitt sunk a late three point giving them some hope, Makenna Ott swooped under the rim and scooped up two points for Haslett.
Haslett would go on to win and claim the Distirct Title by a score of 58 to 48.
After the game Haslett Girls Basketball Coach Bob Currier noted that "it's our first class A District Title so it's a big deal for us".
Sophomore player Karson Tripp commented:
"We haven't beat Dewitt since their Senior year so we just had to beat them three times. And beating them three times is just the best feeling in the world, especially knowing that they're our rivals".
Haslett Junior Makenna Ott said about the game:
"The first time we got down on them quick the second time they were up and we came back and won. It was kind of back and forth. So it was a good mixture of everything. It means a lot to beat them. In the beginning of the season it didn't matter if we won or not, but this is what matters, because now we're on the way to a state championship". You heard it, Haslett's got their eye on the prize! The team will now move on to play Ann Arbor Huron in the regional round.
