MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Emergency Needs Fund is at an all-time low. According to the U.S. Census, about 13%, or in another words 5,000 people in Meridian Township live below the poverty level.
The Emergency Needs Fund is used by the Meridian Township Community Resources Commission to assist residents who are in need especially during the holiday season. The Meridian Cares Team aims to raise $3,000 in the next two weeks through its first ever fundraiser to help replenish the fund.
“Many households will be lacking this holiday season and having to make choices between food, utilities, rent, or medication, and this is one way in which the community can reach out to our neighbors to help them enjoy what the rest of us often take for granted,“ stated Suzanne Brouse, Chair of the Community Resources Commission.
The Meridian Cares Team is selling raffle tickets for a chance to win 1 of 20 gift baskets donated by businesses throughout the community. Gift baskets have a $50-$100 value and could make a wonderful gift or a holiday treat for yourself.
To buy tickets, just stop in at any Meridian Township Office Building. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20.
Donations are tax deductible and checks can be made out to Meridian Township with "Meridian Cares" in the memo line. Raffle winners will be announced on the Meridian Township Facebook page Wednesday, December 17th.
