MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - There was a special recognition at the October 21st Township Board meeting to commemorate Ginny Haas, the Director of Community Relations at Michigan State University, as she is retiring.

She has worked at MSU for 19 years and has been the Director of Community Relations for 15 years. She started out doing advocacy for government affairs but then discovered that there were student related issues in the community and then started working more with the surrounding community.

Haas has worked on multiple projects including one that is currently ongoing which involves the surrounding fire departments that serve this region.

"That has been really rewarding to see the six fire departments come together and do joint training and they're very close to having automatic mutual aid which will mean everyone will have better service so I think that's very important," said Haas.

When asked what she will do with more free time, Haas stated that she plans to volunteer with some local organizations. She also hopes to do some traveling and as well as relaxing.
