Fundraiser Concert Held for Haslett Food Pantry

Fundraiser Concert Held for Haslett Food Pantry

HASLETT - On Wednesday, February 13th, MSU Professor Gwendolyn Dease and her percussion students hosted a food pantry fundraiser concert at the Haslett Community Church.

Gwen Dease and her husband Michael Dease started this idea about five years ago and host it every year.

Gwendolyn Dease is professor of percussion and area chair of brass and percussion at Michigan State University. Her home church, Haslett Community Church, is a committed host of a Food Pantry, and she thought it would be a good idea to connect her student with the church.

Normally the percussion student don't get smaller intimate solo opportunities, so the fundraiser gave their music good exposure to the community. Gwen and the MSU percussion students try to reach out to people to perform and create music that is meaningful to others.

"It seemed like a natural partnership since I knew people here and they wanted to raise money for the food bank", Dease said.

The food pantry fundraiser is an event where you can enjoy some relaxing music while helping the local community. You can help by giving cash, personal need items, or donated groceries, and all donations for this event will go directly to the Haslett Food Pantry.
