MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The April 15th income tax deadline is just around the corner. Meaning it is tax season.
Many people pay to get their taxes done either online or by businesses such as H&R block, but there are options for low income households.
Eligible residents of a household income up to 53,000 dollars could qualify for free tax assistance.
"There are few options for taxes. One of them is for seniors, we can go to the meridian senior center. Another option is if a household makes less than 53,000 dollars a year, they can actually have their taxes done for free. You just call 211, they can set up a appointment walk through the paper work that you need. And they will assign you to several locations in the county that do those services, " said Darla Jackson, the Human Services Specialist in Meridian Township.
The Meridian Senior Center offers tax assistance appointments on Monday's for those 60 years and older through the AARP tax program until April 14th.
Jackson also said that Ingham County residents can get their taxes done for free by volunteers or by doing it themselves online through the Asset Independence Coalition.
