UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Township residents recently attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newest addition to the historical village.
Murphy Elementary students had the opportunity to take a break from the classroom and try their hand at fishing on the new fishing dock in Central Park.
After the ribbon was cut by multiple students, they raced onto the dock and each grabbed a fishing rod as quickly as they could.
"It's really cool and there's a lot of space and it's a really good view. It's right by my house so I can come here with all my family and friends and make a lot of memories, and there's a bunch of fish so I can catch a lot of 'em," said Joanna Davis, a student at Murphy Elementary.
Construction of the fishing dock was made possible through a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant in the Meridian Township park millage.
