UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - "The fire station does a lot of good in the area, a lot of good in the community, and I was really sad to hear it," said Steven Edwards, a resident that would be hit close to home if the fire station closed.

Considering, his home is right across the street from the station.

"I have issues that would be an immediate need kind of thing, if anything ever happened," Edwards said.

Throughout the surrounding neighborhood, other residents echoed similar concerns, including Jason McCallister.

"It seems like the fire stations we have now in Meridian Township, are evenly dispersed geographically," McCallister said.

"So this fire station takes care of Indian Hills and my neighborhood, and some neighborhoods down on Hamilton east of us... I think its good to have (the central fire station) there."

Resident Craig Kelley said the fire station and men and women who work there play a large role in the community.

"It's used a lot, I mean there's a lot of traffic from it," Kelley said. "And they're good neighbors, I mean they're real good people. I would like to see them stay personally."

The station in question is, in fact, the oldest one in the township and therefore many of the township officials have argued it's beyond repaid at this point. Doing away with it completely might be more cost effective. As of now, and roughly a year later since the original proposal was first introduced, still no final decisions have been made. Discussions are expected to continue at future township board meetings.
