UPDATE: LANSING - Respects were paid to law enforcement officers.

Phillip Gross, father of Deputy Sheriff Bryan Phillip Gross said, "7-28-2011 my son drowned in the North Platte River attempting to rescue a 14 year old girl who was drowning in the river. And she survived, my son did not."

"This is my daughter Madeline and we are both survivors. My husband Public Safety Officer Mason James Samborski was killed in the line of duty on 12-28-08," said Sarah Samborski, wife of Officer Mason James Samborski.

"These police officers that gave their life in the line of duty must not be forgotten. They made the ultimate sacrifice to make or community safer and it is important that not only are they not forgotten but their families know that they are not forgotten," said G. Wriggeslworth, Ingham County Sheriff.

Over 200 police officers came to show their support at the State Capitol. This was an event to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

G. Wriggelsworth, Ingham County Sheriff, said, "I mean these are people, think about this, these are people that have to strap on body armor to go to work. How many people have to do that? Police officers."

Zachary Rangel of the MSU Police Department said, "It makes me feel proud. It makes me feel honored to wear this uniform and come to work everyday. And have a reason to come to work because of events like this. It just makes you feel proud of what you do."

This was the 19th year for this Candlelight Memorial Service.
