UPDATE: EAST LANSING - In 2008, the U.S. Department of Energy selected MSU's campus as the location for a new research facility.

The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, or more commonly known as the FRIB, is the only on of it's kind in the country.

Recently, the House Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee announced a bill that contains $40 million in funding for the project.

So what does this mean for Michigan? Project Manager, Thomas Glasmacher explains.

"Immediately, now F-RIB will result in additional construction jobs and then later on F-RIB will result in knowledge economy jobs. So, we kind of have both parts. The immediate impact now and construction and some long term impact for the next 30 years."

Once funds are appropriated, construction of the FRIb will begin later this year and continue until the year 2019.
