UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Due to the increase in drunk driving during the holiday season, the state of Michigan participated in the annual nationwide crackdown on drunk driving.
The heightened enforcement period involved a higher number of officers on the road looking specifically for people driving under the influence.
By the end of the statewide crackdown, more than three hundred drunk driving arrests had been made. Despite the widely publicized increase in police officers on the road.
In addition to the arrests, there were also 15 traffic fatalities during the holiday period, four of which involved alcohol. This is an increase from the 11 fatalities during the 2010 holiday season.
