EAST LANSING, MI - It was a busy week for traffic professionals in Michigan as the 20th Annual Michigan Traffic Safety Summit was held at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.
More than 600 people gathered over a two and a half day period making this the largest Michigan Traffic summit to date.
With representatives from all areas of the traffic safety service world present including law enforcement engineering, and education the presentations and workshops covered all sorts of topics.
One of the presenters on Wednesday March 25th was the Colorado Department of Transportation who spoke the states new safety slogan " Drive High, get a DUI."
Melody Kindraka, Communications coordinator with the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning said, " We can actually pull in speakers from other states and we can look at what other states are experiencing and best practices that other states have got, so its a really good way to learn so we can anticipate of something like that were to happen in Michigan and we can also make those connections"
While Marijuana is not legal in Michigan, CDOT was invited to the conference in order to share their experience in educating Colorado about the risks of driving while high and the laws in place.
For Michigan Traffic Safety, whether any marijuana law legislation passes, it is better to be safe and knowledgeable than sorry.
