MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Wednesday marked the spring student count day in public schools across Michigan.

According to the Michigan Department of Education's website, "count information is critical to districts because each student translates into state funding."

Okemos Public Schools and East Lansing Public Schools get $8,099 in state funding per student, while Haslett Public Schools get $7,251 in state funding per student.

"Hopefully those dollars stay stable year after year, or increase," said Michael Duda, Superintendent of Haslett Public Schools. "I think most school districts are hoping that’s the way that it lands because if you lose students you’re losing dollars for your school district."

Duda expects the official numbers for the spring 2015 student count to be in by the end of the week.

Okemos Public Schools Superintendent Catherine Ash said that enrollment hasn't changed since the September count so she doesn't expect this count to financially impact her district.
