UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - April showers brings more than just May flowers, construction projects are falling behind due to the inclement weather and flooding.

"We are probably 6 weeks behind schedule, I am hopeful that the Contractor will be able to make up some time as we move forward, but nothing is certain at this point, including future weather related delays. A revised schedule has not yet been approved since they have been off the project due to high water. We anticipate they will be getting back to work this week or early next, and we should have a better idea on completion dates by the end of the month," commented Daniel Troia, Project Engineer from Ingham County Road Department (ICRD).

The ICRD hopes to see an "open to traffic date" by July 4th.


ORIGINAL STORY: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Progress has been made on the Van Atta Road Bridge construction project.

In order for the new 100 foot bridge to be constructed on the existing 60 foot bridge foundations, the bridge built in 1935 must be removed, which happened last week.

"We've removed the old bridge here on Van Atta Road and we are making preparations to install coffer dams and such to put the new bridge on," said James Scaggs, Superintendent of Davis Construction.

The new bridge will also feature a dedicated sidewalk on the west side of the bridge and a canoe launch.

The new bridge is expected to be open to traffic by early June 2014.
