MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Tuesday April 1st, the Township Board voted to write letters to support the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) for their federal grant request.
They are requesting two TIGER grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the new bus rapid transit project. One of them would be for $13,000,000 and the other, of $150,000,000.
"It's CATA's intention to seek federal funding for that entire $215,000,000 price tag that's being tossed about as the estimated cost to implement the bus rapid transit. There will be more grant applications coming," said Meridian Township Treasurer, Julie Brixie.
These grants will fund construction, infrastructure and new vehicles. More grant requests will come when CATA is farther along in the BRT project.
CATA will be having more open meetings, starting April 16th.
