MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN - At the Township Board Meeting, members of the board discussed the plans for Black History Month and the plans to proceed this year. Trustee Courtney Wisinski spoke on the continuation of Black History month, stating how important it is to celebrate every year and is honored that the Board continues to commemorate this month.
Treasurer Phil Deschaine spoke on this topic, reading, “The Meridian Township commemorates Black History month to pay tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity and to celebrate the accomplishments, contributions and history of African Americans.“ He also touched on how in 2016, Patricia Herring Jackson was elected as the first African American woman to be a trustee on the Meridian Township Board, which strives to increase diversity everywhere in Meridian.
Manager Frank Walsh stated that the staff is attempting to create events, although with COVID, there is difficulty in that area. The Board will keep residents of Meridian Township posted.
