UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This summer, millions of Americans are once again expected to hit the road and open air to make it to their getaway destination.
But the key, according to Karen Izzo, the owner of Meridian Travel, is to plan early.
"I think people are trying to plan ahead, and realizing it's probably a good idea to buy their air tickets now. It's not like anyone's expecting the price of fuel to drop a lot so people are planning ahead."
But for those who would rather hit the road instead, there's an app for that too. From getting live traffic updates with apps like Beat the Traffic, to finding the nearest and cheapest gas prices with Gas Buddy. There's also apps to help you find close restaurants and the cheapest hotel rates.
With the economy on the rebound, Izzo said more people who might've put off traveling the past few summers are treating themselves this year.
"People are working hard and life can be stressful so you have to have a vacation to relax and enjoy yourself," Izzo said.
