UPDATE:
BATH - 220 family caregivers in the Lansing area were treated to a day of relaxation.
Lori Brandenburg, a committee member who helped organize the retreat, said the event is in its sixth year.
"It's an annual event that we put on," she said. "It's for the caregiver to get pampered and rejuvenated and learn more about how to care for their loved one."
Caregivers had the day to indulge in massages and manicures, facials, and even accupuncture among other activities.
"It's a renewal," explained Kay Winslow, who cared for her husband for three years while he was bedridden. "Part of the renewal is about meeting this person here and this person there and they are going through similar things. Knowing you are not the only one is special in every way it can be."
Winslow attended the retreat last year as well.
"I left and cried going home," she said. "We cry about sadness but sometimes we cry about something so good. It seems like it's not a lot but I kept going, 'It's so good, it's so good.'"
Winslow added she hopes the retreat will continue in the years to come.
