INGHAM COUNTY - The Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter has had a problem with overcrowding and this seems to be consistent when summer rolls around.

In order to help with this issue, one solution the shelter will sometimes turn to is a reduction in adoption fees. The shelter hopes that this will encourage people to come out and give these animals a new home.

According to the shelter, overcrowding is an issue they find themselves having almost every summer because of an increase of strays and people dropping animals off when they vacation.

This past week the shelter reduced adoption fees to 50 and then 75 percent. Thanks to the community the shelter found themselves back at a manageable number of animals.

"When we have fewer animals in here it's easier for us to work on rehabilitating behavioral problems and medical issues, spending more time with the animals to get to know their personality which helps with adoption counseling," said John Dinon, the Director of the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter.
