MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Right to Farm is now a hot topic in Meridian Township.
The proposal calls for establishing more regulations on the number of animals that may be kept and the size of the property required for this activity in rural-residential areas.
Treasurer Julie Brixie stated, "we've had numerous complaints about the raising and keeping of poultry since we enacted our chicken ordinance. I supported the chicken ordinance and I still support it but I think sometimes when we enact ordinances we see that there are some unintended consequences of those actions."
The Board voted to request that the Planning Commission work on regulations and creating definitions for small animals and poultry.
