MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Through the Parks and Recreation Department, Meridian Township offers a few sports for adult leagues this summer.
These programs include co-ed sand volleyball, softball, and kickball. Softball has 34 teams playing four nights a week, with three of those nights for the co-ed teams. Volleyball games are four-on-four with two boys and two girls playing on Mondays and Tuesdays and kickball has 12 teams playing every Friday. The adult summer sports program has gained quite the popularity in Meridian Township throughout the years.
"Participation numbers have been pretty steady over the last few years for all of them," said Greg Grothous, Parks and Recreation Specialist.
"Kickball is definitely one that is growing but we’ve kind of reached our peak there just because of field availability. When you combine our summer season and our fall season, we’ll have well over 40 teams participating in adult kickball which is about as many as we can accommodate."
With the Summer season flying by, the Fall leagues for adult sports are right around the corner. The community of Meridian Township can look forward to some more softball and kickball as well as seven-on-seven flag football.
