HASLETT - Friday, Oct. 27 the Haslett Vikings would take on Parma Western at home. The Panthers came into the matchup with an overall record of 6-4. The Haslett Vikings were coming off of a critical loss from Dewit a couple weeks ago, but would win out their following regular season games earning them a playoff berth.
The Panthers would be the first to put points on the board early in the first quarter then Haslett would quickly respond and at the half it would be a tie game (14-14)
The Vikings and the Panthers would go back and forth on possessions the entire night. With 3:48 left in the third quarter the Vikings would pull ahead by a touchdown, but Parma would tie the game again with 80 yards rushing in 12 plays.
Ben Britain would come up strong for the Vikings and they would take the lead again, before Parma’s Steele Fortress would punch it in for the Panthers and they would go for two to try and hold the lead with three minutes left in the game.
"I always say the first round of playoffs is the scariest," said Haslett Head Football Coach, Charlie Otlewski.
The Vikings would get deep into Panther territory but not close enough, and they would settle for a field goal not only securing a win, but also advancing to the second round of playoffs.
"Our senior leadership is what it comes down to and we have cultivated that culture. Hopefully next week we get another home game, but I’m proud of my team, I’m proud f these seniors," said Otlewski.
The Vikings will take on the winner of the East Lansing and Tecumseh.
