Public Hearings Held for Okemos Pointe Development Project

Public Hearings Held for Okemos Pointe
Development Project

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Plans for the development of Okemos Pointe were discussed at the Feb. 22 Planning Commission meeting.

The neighborhood where the proposed development would be is between the Jolly Rd. and Okemos Rd. intersection to Hagadorn Rd.

Changes to the proposal from Aug. include an acreage increase from 37,29 acres, to 33.73 acres, a square footage decrease from 579,500 square feet to 467,800 square feet, and a decrease in the number of buildings from 23 to 21.

There will be 354 apartment units, a fitness center, a pavilion and playground, a commercial center- which will include mainly food based businesses, and a trail system that will connect through the neighborhood.

The site will include a Market Pedestrian Plaza open to the public that will begin at the end of the Meridian Township Cross Country Trail System.

The marketplace will include a mezzanine area that will include office buildings, and also serve as a private or public event space.

The overall goal of the project is to provide a place that will bring the community together and it is projected to be a four year project.

Discussion over the development will continue and several permits will need to be obtained before the building process begins, so the projected start date for the project has not yet been determined.

Finalization of the projects plans will be brought to the next Planning Commission meeting on March 14, after which the request will be brought to the Township Board.
