Increased Ambulance Fee's

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At a recent Township board meeting, members approved raising the mileage rates for ambulance fees by 45 cents to $11.45.

In February of this year, Meridian Township Fire chief, Fred Cowper, met with the ambulance fee billing company, Medical Management. During the meeting they informed him that Blue Cross Blue Shield would be increasing their loaded mile fee by 45 cents.

Cowper explained, “we’re raising the rates 45 cents just to capture the 45 cents that the insurance company’s saying they’re going to pay. They’ve raised their ability to pay more money for mileage, we just want to raise our rates to capture that.”

Chief Cowper assumes the insurance companies raised the rate as a result of the increasing cost in gas along with the depreciation of the ambulance vehicles over time. He also stated the ambulance fee increase would be implemented immediately.
