MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township is sending out an S.O.S. seeking help for the upcoming August 6th election.
"Meridian Township is in strong need of additional election workers for the upcoming August 6th election. It's the summer time, people go on vacation, we have attrition anyway because people come and go. This particular time we really need election workers," said Township Clerk Brett Dreyfus.
They are seeking about 20 additional workers and the job pays $11 an hour, training is paid as well.
"There's two options election workers have. They can work the full day from about 6am to about 10pm so it's a long day, but it's fun, it's interesting and you get to meet interesting people. You're doing a great community service and it's an important part of our democracy. The other option is a half day which starts at 1:30 p.m. and goes until about 10 p.m."
Applications for the positions can be found online at the Meridian Township website. Once filled out the application can be mailed, faxed, or dropped off to the Clerk's Office.
For those interested in receiving an application through the mail call 517.853.4300 and request an Election Inspector Application.
Training takes place a week before the August 6th election and the voting machines are available for additional practice during that week as well.
