OKEMOS - This winter, Meridian Township has received a new artificial ice rink at the Marketplace on the Green pavilion. Multiple citizens and organizations from the area came together to create a recreational area for people of all ages to skate on. The artificial ice rink is available to all visitors for free.

Also at the pavilion is the winter Farmers' Market, which brings out over 40 vendors from around Michigan, providing consumers with locally sourced produce, crafts, clothing, hot food, and baked goods during these cold days.

Director of Parks and Recreation, LuAnn Maisner, stated, "We're just so excited about being able to open this to the community, and then we've been so fortunate to have support from the Haslett-Okemos Kiwanis club. Delta Dental provided a very large amount of money to help create our lending bin and also to purchase skates."

Numerous events are being planned for the ice rink this winter, including hot cocoa and music. The ice rink will be up until April of 2022, giving skaters ample time to try out the rink.
