OKEMOS, MICHIGAN - In Okemos, Michigan, sports are happening, but not without precautions. Okemos High School's Athletic Director, Brian Fuller, said that the two most noticeable things that are different this year because of COVID come in two-fold.

Students must take precautions while engaging in sports, such as mask-wearing. Some sports require masks, and some do not when directly competing. Some other conditions also are in place, such as social distancing, where players do not wear masks. A few of the preventative measures behind the scenes are screening protocols, temperature checks, and cleaning actions that Okemos schools have taken to keep kids safe.
Another measure that has been in place is limited spectator seating. Some contests have had no fans, and others have been limited to one or two fans per player.

“There’s a variety of different factors,” said Fuller. “But the idea of students can be able to watch their classmates compete hasn’t been much of a reality this year. They’ve been really limited in the opportunities to support their classmates.”
