EAST LANSING - On Saturday, October 3rd, the Tree Team will be hosting a Community Tree Planting Day from 12:00pm to 3:00 pm at the Chippewa Middle School. The Tree Team was started in December of 2019, but due to COVID-19, was not able to launch until the spring. At the event, volunteers will dig holes, plant trees, fill holes, spread mulch, water and build wire cages. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, a water bottle, long pants and a shovel (with your name on it). Masks and social distancing are required.
LeRoy Harvey, Meridian Township Environmental Programs Coordinator, says, "The Tree Team hopes to have 50 volunteers for the event and to distribute over 250 trees in the community and 40 trees to a local school."
The benefits of the community event include, beautification, shade, habitat improvement and opportunities for environmental education.
